Vaka Tautua Chief Executive Officer, Dr Amanda-Lanuola Dunlop, has been appointed to the new Energy Hardship Expert Panel that has been established to recommend policy priorities and actions to the  Government.

The panel was a recommendation of the independent Electricity Price Review, and it will advise government on actions it can take to alleviate energy hardship.

Dr Dunlop says it is an honour to be appointed to the panel, to represent Pacific peoples, disabled peoples and those in financial hardship.

“My job is to bring our community, “lived experience” voice and insights to the table, so the actions the government takes will make a positive difference in the lives of our Pacific peoples, disabled peoples and all New Zealanders.”

The appointment is until June 2023. Hutt City Councillor Keri Brown (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Whātua and Ngāti Mahana) has been appointed to the chair. The other members are beneficiary advocate Kay Brereton, former electricity executive Kevin Angland, and Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu chief executive Helen Leahy.
